The Scandal Point has a very interesting story, according to the famous legendary story, it is believed that Maharaja Bhupinder Singh of Patiala and the daughter of a British Viceroy in Shimla used to meet at this location, hence the intriguing name. She was the daughter of the British viceroy Lord Kitchener.
Lord Kitchener had to move his family to India, as he was posted here in Shimla. When the British viceroy and his family moved to Shimla, Lord Kitchener became good friends with Maharaja Bhupinder Singh of Patiala.
Both Lord Kitchener and Maharaja Bhupinder Singh of Patiala used to visit each other often. And then Lord Kitchener’s daughter met Maharaja Bhupinder Singh, they started to know each other and fell in love. They wanted to get married but Lord Kitchener did not acknowledge them. The two used to meet at this current Scandal Point and hence the name. They are believed to have run away together in 1892.
Near Scandal Point there are many popular tourist spots like the Mall Road, and The Ridge. You can enjoy hanging out in the Mall Road, enjoy shopping, walking around, having a cup of tea enjoying the view or simply sitting and relaxing. The Ridge is also another interesting tourist spot providing breathtaking scenic view; you can walk around here or simply appreciate the view.
In the Mall Road and Ridge you can find benches, people can simply sit here and relax and enjoy the view. When you have gained your energy you can shop around again and at lunch or dinner time you can feed yourself at the restaurants located in the vicinity.

The best time to visit this place is during the months of March to June. During this time, the weather is pleasant; the temperature usually remains between 15 degree Celsius and 30 degree Celsius. The weather also makes it easier to explore places.
The monsoon here starts from July to September. During this time period it is advisable not to visit Shimla, as it receives heavy rainfall and landslides also occur in the area. Although, monsoon creates extra magical experience in the hills, it’s a unique experience walking around the Mall Road with your umbrella in hand.
The winters start from October and go on till February. The climate is biting cold, and the temperature goes as low as -2 degrees Celsius. This may not be the best time to visit the Scandal Point.
Those who want to see snowfall can visit Shimla in winter season that starts from October to February. But the snowfall usually occurs in December and January. The temperature drops down to -2 degree Celsius.
The Scandal Point is located 1km away from the Shimla bus stand and 1.5 km away from the Shimla Railway Station from where you can take toy trains.
People have to reach the Scandal Point on foot. You have to park your car below the Mall Road where there is a parking space, from here you have to take the lift or use the staircase to reach the Mall Road. Once you reach the Mall Road, you have to walk all the way to the Scandal Point.
In order to take the lift, you need to pay a certain fee. There are actually two lifts. After you take the first lift, you need to get out and walk towards the second lift, which will take you to the Mall Road. The lift is open from 8.00 AM to 9.00 PM.
If you have brought your own car, to visit the Scandal Point you have to park your car below the Mall Road where there is a parking area. Entry of vehicles to the Scandal Point is not allowed.
Scandal Point is open from 6:00 am in the morning to 8:00 pm in the evening. It is open on all days.
